An accessible and reliable charging network is vital when it comes to a positive EV adoption and charging experience.
Last October Google added charging points to their maps, which was huge news for EV drivers. Google also allowed us to view wattage, port types, pricing, live reviews and photos from other drivers. Now google has stepped this up a notch and allows you to view the live status of the charger with selected networks. For EV drivers this means no disappointing arrivals or having to wait for a charge to finish. No more arriving at a station to find out it is out of order. Simply brilliant!
The Earth Day 22nd of April was a great day to launch this functionality and it is available in the UK and the US only, but we will hope to see the live charger status in the rest of Europe soon. At the moment you can find charging providers such as Chargemaster, EVgo, and SemaConnect with the next ramp-up planned with ChargePoint chargers very soon.
If you are curious to test out this new setting all you have to do is search “EV charging stations” on the latest version of Google maps.
